HOW TO REACH SERLACHIUS AND THE ART TOWN MÄNTTÄ?

We encourage you to a sustainable way of traveling by using the Serlachius Art Express or other public transportation when heading towards Mänttä! We have gathered here information whether you come by (electric) car or bicycle, airplane or train. Tampere and Jyväskylä are about an hour’s drive away from Mänttä. Travel time to Helsinki, Turku or Vaasa is about three hours. Find out how to reach us by:

SERLACHIUS ART EXPRESS

The Serlachius Art Express runs from Tampere to Mänttä on the days that the museums are open:
Summertime: 1 Jun–31 Aug DAILY
Wintertime: 1 Sep–31 May from Tuesday to Sunday

The Serlachius Art Express leaves towards Serlachius Museums from Tampere bus station at 10:50 am and Tampere railway station at 11:05 am. The bus arrives back to Tampere around seven o’clock in the evening. You have altogether eight hours time to experience a wonderful day trip into the heart of art! Find a detailed time table below.

Tip: The bus timetable matches with the train timetable from Helsinki to Tampere and back. So it is possible to make a day trip all the way from Helsinki by morning train to Tampere and continue then by the Serlachius Art Express to Mänttä.

Note! The bus does not run on the following days: Good Friday, Finland’s Independence Day 6 Dec, Christmas Eve 24 Dec, Christmas Day 25 Dec and New Year’s Eve 31 Dec.

PRICES OF BUS TICKETS

A return ticket Tampere–Mänttä–Tampere:
Adults 30 €
Students, pensioners and children (12–16 years) 26 €
Children (4–11 years) 20 €
Children under 4 years-old and assistants of disabled persons free of charge.

A one-way ticket:
Adults 20 €
Students, pensioners and children (12–16 years) 13 €
Children (4–11 years) 10 €
Children under 4 years-old and assistants of disabled persons free of charge.

A local traffic ticket for traveling within Mänttä costs 3 € a day if bought separately.

How to book a return ticket?
Choose first a one-way ticket on your preferred date. After this, you are able to add the return journey on your booking and the system will give discount for both ways with the Serlachius Art Express (adult’s ticket).


Buy your bus tickets online or reserve your seat at Serlachius Museum’s sales service tel. +358 3 488 6801 or sales@serlachius.fi. Sales service is open from Mon–Fri 9 am–3 pm. Book your ticket online at the latest 20 minutes in advance. You can also step on the bus without reservation, but we highly recommend it especially in the summertime. Tickets can be bought from the driver (cash or card).

By train

From Tampere, a regional train leaves every day 12.06 pm and stops at Vilppula railway station at 13.06 pm.
From Vilppula, a regional train leaves every day to Tampere at 18.52 pm.

The distance from the Vilppula railway station to Serlachius Museum Gösta is about 5 kilometres and to Gustaf about 7 kilometres.

Rent a city bike at Vilppula railway station

Hop on a train, using the app book your Donkey Republic city bike on the way and pick it up at Vilppula railway station. Pedal away to enjoy Mänttä-Vilppula experiences! Bike & Rail service combines bicycle tourism and rail traffic and offers possibility to enjoy sustainable and experiential day trips in Tampere region. 

In summer 2023 Bike & Rail service is tested in cooperation with Art Town Mänttä-Vilppula, Serlachius Museums and KaaKau providing the city bikes of Donkey Republic.

The distance from Mänttä bus station to Serlachius Museum Gustaf is about half a kilometre and to Art Museum Gösta about two kilometres.

WHEN DRIVING IN A CAR

How to reach Serlachius by car? The Art Town Mänttä is located nicely in between the two bigger cities, Jyväskylä and Tampere, so it is easy to include Serlachius for example in a Lakeland round trip. Mänttä-Vilppula is on National Route 58 between Orivesi and Keuruu. The travel time from Tampere to Mänttä is 1 hour 15 minutes and from Jyväskylä to Mänttä 1 hour and 10 minutes. To drive from Helsinki to Mänttä takes 3 hours and from Turku, Vaasa and Kuopio 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Charging stations for electric cars are located at both Serlachius Museums’ parking areas. The charging station at Art Museum Gösta has now eight paid charging points. Payment takes place either using card with contactless payment or online at: lataus.leppakoski.fi. You may also check the price for charging on their website. 

There are four Rapid charging points (DC) of which three have CCS connectors and one a CHAdeMo connector. Price of charging is 20 ct/min + starting fee 30 ct. Max charging power is 60 kW/charging point which is halved when two cars are charged simultaneously.

There are four basic charging stations (AC) with Type 2 connectors. Charging requires customers’ own cable. Price of charging is 25 ct/kWh + starting fee 30 ct. The power is 22 kW.

Museum Gustaf’s charging station has two 22 kW charging points with Type 2 connectors. The charging point is located in the parking area facing the factory. Price of charging is 25 ct/kWh + starting fee 30 ct.
