The Starry Skies of Art
The book Starry Skies of Art has been published in connection to an eponymous exhibition displayed at Serlachius Museum Gösta.
Art has depicts the starry sky and its phenomena in many ways. The Starry Skies of Art – both this book and the exhibition – presents works from different centuries, from Finland and further afield. Artist’s impressions of the starry sky have reflected not only the movements of art but also the prevailing scientific views of the universe that surrounds us. At the same time as our view of the world has expanded and the secrets of the universe have gradually been revealed, the spectrum of the various forms of art has provided new ways of perceiving the world in which we live.
What we see is easy to describe both in science and in art. Much more difficult is to capture what’s invisible to the eye. Art continues from the point where science ends.
