Roger Ballen – Resurrected
Roger Ballen Resurrected has been created in connection to an exhibition shown at Serlachius Museum Gösta. This book illuminates the entire process in essays and photographs. Furthermore it includes Roger Ballen’s photographs created and taken within the House.
Resurrected is the title of a House that used to be deep inside the Finnish Forest. Photographer and artist Roger Ballen received an invitation to transform this House to portray his unique aesthetic. At first, the team along with the artist took the whole building apart. After several stages they finally reassembled in the Serlachius Museum Gösta in Mänttä, Finland.
The Resurrested House was a part of a larger exhibition, Touching from a Distance, whose curator war Ville Lenkkeri. The show was exhibited in Mänttä during the summer of 2015.
The book Resurrecteddocuments not only the history and construction of this unique edifice, but reveals the singular aesthetic vision of Roger Ballen. As a result, the concrete and abstract, real and imaginary and atypical and archetypal merge into a single poetic space.
One can clearly discern the Ballenesque, a visual language expressed throughout the House. It reflects fragments of dreams and reality, the rational and irrational, specific and universal. the Artist’s integration of drawing a, painting, sculpture and photography certainly reveals these elements.
