Santeri Tuori (b. 1970) depicts trees and clouds, but is not content with merely observing the mysteries of nature.
His video and photographic works are constructed like collages by combining colour and black and white shots. Tuori’s photographic works have been compared to classics of Romantic landscape art: Caspar David Friedrich and Johan Christian Dahl. Their paintings have the same scientific approach with which Tuori examines nature from up close, breaks up images into parts and reassembles them by combining the elements into a harmonious whole.
Santeri Tuori was one of the first photographers of the so-called Helsinki School, who became prominent internationally in the 1990s. Since then, Tuori’s works have been repeatedly seen not only in Finland but also in London, Berlin, Tokyo and Paris.
