Mark Wallinger Mark

Summer’s main exhibition brings one of Britain’s most popular artists to Finland. Mark Wallinger is known for never repeating himself.

Wallinger’s works, which vary in theme, reflect the artist’s passion for, among other things, sport, history, politics and the natural sciences. They are focused on the human being as well as the questions who we are and what determines our relationship to the world.

Wallinger’s output is dizzyingly broad – it includes, alongside paintings and sculptures, photographic and video works as well as installations, performances and major public works, in which he addresses, among other things, nationalism, class-based society and current social phenomena.

Winner of the famous Turner Prize in 2007 and Britain’s representative at  Venice Biennal in 2001, Wallinger will showcase in Mänttä also new artworks, especially made for this exhibition.

The Mark Wallinger Mark exhibition is produced by Serlachius Museums Mänttä in cooperation with The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee and Gallery Hauser & Wirth, London. The exhibition is curated by Timo Valjakka.
