Eija-Liisa Ahtila, In the Woods There is a Bird

The works of Eija-Liisa Ahtila enchant and astonish their viewers. She has exhibited her at in the most important museums an galleries around the world. In addition, significant collections have acquired her works.

In this monograph, Pauli Sivonen, director of the Serlachius Museums, presents the production of Finland’s internationally most acclaimed and successful contemporary artist in Finland today. Consequently, Sivonen explores in his book the relationship between a human and nature through Ahtila’s video works from mid-1990s to this day.

The nature that Ahtila describes in her works is full of Symbolism. In spite of this, there have earlier been very few efforts to study this side of her production. Eija-Liisa Ahtila specializes in installations moving on the edge of film and video art. She belongs to the group of most significant pioneers of Finnish video art.
