For all women – Tours that matter

Can the stories of Finnish women encourage women and girls worldwide? Serlachius has developed all female tours with the support of Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture.

The history and present of Finnish women offer socially significant role models from various fields.

Finland is one of the frontrunning countries in equality. In Finland, women have long enjoyed a relatively independent status and the opportunity to lead a life of their own terms, which is not self-evident internationally. Finnish women were the first in the world to obtain full political rights. In Finland, there are women who are significant figures in science and art. A record number of women are among the leaders of listed companies, and women have served as the country’s President and Prime Minister. The story of Finnish women attracts international interest.

The content of the travel packages can be tailored by combining modules ranging from entertaining to more serious. Pre-designed packages include themes like:

  • Women living in the Happiest Country of the World
  • Strength from Nature
  • Equality Expedition
  • Women at the Top of Fashion, Design, and Art

Why does Serlachius develop all-female tours to Finland?

In our strategy we at Serlachius say that sustainability is our second nature, and we aim advance responsibility related to equality. We want to bring hidden issues into the spotlight, such as women’s stories and foster content initiatives to prevent societal echo chambers.

The goal of the Finland all-female tours is to offer encounters, conversations, and inspiration among women coming from different backgrounds. Travelers will explore the innovations of Finnish women’s everyday life, from drying cabinets to menstrual cups, and get acquainted with a nature-oriented lifestyle involving saunas and forest walks. Discussions will cover topics such as happiness, well-being, and sustainability with both researchers and ordinary Finnish women. Dialogues are also significant in encounters with female entrepreneurs working for example in the design and fashion industry.

Those on the journey can engage with experts to reflect on what constitutes Finnish gender equality, what aspects are positive, where improvements can be made, the role of society in balancing work and family life, and how organizations support women’s lives. Economic equality is better in Finland than in many countries of the world, and Finland has had a high female employment rate for decades. By supporting parenthood, it has been possible to combine motherhood and working life well, by international comparison. Finland’s maternity care system is considered throughout the world to be an interesting and respected model.

“We bring new content to tourism and tours. We want to offer encounters, information and inspiration for new solutions, even though solving social, historical or structural shortcomings is by no means solely the responsibility of women. Our ready-made travel packages also, of course, can offer different target groups pure pleasure, short periods of relaxation, and pampering – among women”, says Päivi Viherkoski, the initiator of the Serlachius all-female tours.
