Serlachius Residency Application period begins

Application for the year 2027 beginsSerlachius Residency offers peaceful working spaces for artists, art and art history researchers, students, and curators. Applications for the residency year 2027 open on 1 February and remain open until 31 March 2026.

The Serlachius Residency, maintained by the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation, is an artist-in-residence programme that has been operating since 2015 in the Art Town of Mänttä‑Vilppula.
Residency guests have access to workspaces located in a wooden house in the centre of Mänttä. Accommodation is provided approximately three kilometres away, in a house situated within the park of the Serlachius Manor.

“This is the only place where I feel that everything – the atmosphere, the studio and the light – offers complete freedom and possibilities for experimentation.”

Luciana Mariano

No rent is charged for accommodation or the studio. Residency guests are responsible for their own living expenses and travel costs. Artists in residence also have the opportunity to produce a small‑scale exhibition in the residency’s gallery space. All residency events are free of charge.

Guests particularly appreciate the residency’s facilities, the closeness to nature and the peaceful working environment that Mänttä offers. Brazilian‑born artist Luciana Mariano, who has made Finland her home, has already worked at the residency twice.

“I really have to pinch myself when I look out of the window at Einola or from the studio. The sunbeams glittering on the bluish‑white snow are indescribably beautiful. This is once again a magical experience for me,” she admits.

The residency receives more than one hundred applications every year from around the world. Based on these applications, around twenty individuals or groups are selected for periods ranging from one to four months. The applications are reviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from Serlachius and the Mänttä Art Festival, as well as a rotating artist member.

Residency places are applied for via an electronic application form. The form and application guidelines are available on the residency’s website once the application period begins. Late applications will not be considered.

Responsibility is an important value for Serlachius. The residency’s activities and development are regularly audited from a sustainability perspective as part of Serlachius’ ISO 14001 environmental management system.
