The Senior Citizens’ Coffee programme is organised by the museum staff. The admission ticket, €10.50, includes the programme and coffee service.

Step into a world of illusion. The mysterious works of Anish Kapoor (b. 1954), one of the world’s best-known contemporary artists, invite us to consider the limits of existence and reality. The artworks also need the viewer: our experience completes them, and that experience may be felt in the whole body.

During this Senior Citizens’ Afternoon Coffee event, we will explore Kapoor’s powerful paintings and sculptural works, and reflect on the depths of both the artworks and ourselves. We will also see one of Kapoor’s most recent works: a monumental sculpture made for Mänttä, which transforms the exhibition space on an architectural scale. The programme is in Finnish language.

How do you move from one place to another? Walking may seem like an everyday activity, but the exhibition Walking shows the traces that movement leaves in our surroundings and in our memory.

This exhibition at Serlachius Headquarters is the first wide-ranging museum exhibition in Finland to focus on walking. It presents ideas by artists and researchers about what walking can tell us about being human. In one of the artworks, you may even come across Death walking. The exhibition includes works from the Serlachius collection, loans from other collections and new works by contemporary artists. The programme is in Finnish language.

Have you seen works from the Serlachius collection in other museums? The Serlachius collection is one of the most important private art collections in the Nordic countries, and it includes many remarkable works. So, in 2026, works from Mänttä have again been lent to exhibitions in Europe and beyond.

At the Kadriorg Art Museum in Tallinn, several dozen works have been on display at the same time. Individual paintings have also been shown in cities such as Paris, New York and Leiden in the Netherlands. Kirsimaria Törönen, who has worked at Serlachius this year as an exhibition producer and registrar, will talk about where the works have travelled. The presentation takes place in Finnish language.

Senior Citizens’ Afternoon Coffee – Classic Works at the Manor

Let us return once more to the classics. Opened in 2019, Classic Works of Fine Art at the Manor has presented some of the best-loved works in the Serlachius collection. Over the years, some works have been changed because of loans to other museums and conservation work.

Recent additions have included Gerbrandt van den Eeckhout’s painting Abraham meeting Melchizedek, Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s Portrait of Sissi Serlachius and Rustic Life, as well as Albert Edelfelt’s Dancing Gitana and Portrait of Andrei Vladimirovich. Not all of these works may be included in the new collection display, which will open in early 2027. Which classic work at the Manor is your favourite?
