Ville Lenkkeri’s exhibition on his eccentric doctor-father

For years, photographic artist Ville Lenkkeri photographed his father, the legendary doctor Hannu Lenkkeri from Mänttä, and after his death, the legacy he left behind.

In the summer of 2015, he carried out a project at the Serlachius Residency in which he invited the people of Mänttä to Lenkkeri’s reception once again. The locals responded to the invitation and arrived at Hannu Lenkker’s former office to tell stories, quips and sayings related to him.

From his photographs, his own memories and these stories, Ville Lenkkeri has created a series of photographs that deal with the original doctor of a small town, but also more generally about the continuum of time, one’s relationship with one’s father and the often irreconcilable relationship between the public and private roles of man
