Distant Cool Shadow

A Small Exhibition of Colour

Art Museum Gösta 23 February — 8 September 2019

We cannot touch the colour. It touches us, however, in many different ways. Distant Cool Shadow – A Small Exhibition of Colour at Serlachius Museums Gösta evokes colour-related perceptions and experiences.

How do we see colours and how do they affect us? How is the evolution of colour pigments reflected in the history of art? What meanings does the red colour contain? The exhibition features pearls highlighting the use of colour from the Serlachius art collection. Loan works from museum collections and contemporary artists are also on show in the exhibition Distant Cool Shadow.

The exhibition’s artists are: Carolus Enckell, Magnus Enckell, Jussi Goman, Päivi Hintsanen, Pekka Jylhä, Marra Lampi, Alexander Lauréus, William Lönnberg, Claude Monet, Riiko Sakkinen, Sigrid Schauman, Helene Schjerfbeck, Georges von Swetlik, Reidar Särestöniemi, Anu Tuominen and Rafael Wardi. Serlachius Museums’s head curator Laura Kuurne, and teacher and colour specialist Hannele Karppinen have designed the exhibition.
