Anish Kapoor, On Foot, classic works and history

This autumn, Serlachius presents four exhibitions offering something for everyone. At Serlachius Manor, you can explore an extensive exhibition by Anish Kapoor, one of the world’s leading contemporary artists. 

There is still time to see the much-loved Classic Works of Fine Art at the Manor before the collection exhibition is completely renewed. 

At Serlachius Headquarters, the recently opened thematic exhibition On Foot explores walking in art from the nineteenth century to the present day. The permanent exhibition Patrons tells the story of the Serlachius family as art collectors and developers of Mänttä. 

Public guided tour to the Anish Kapoor exhibition, 17 October 

Kapoor’s works challenge viewers to experience space and scale in new ways. As the artist himself has said, a work of art is only completed through the viewer’s experience. 

The public guided tour in Finnish language, starting at 2 pm, introduces the art of Anish Kapoor. The 45-minute tour offers insights into interpreting Kapoor’s work. 

The tour costs €5 per person, including children, plus museum admission. Museum Card holders pay €3 per person for the tour. 

Family Day: In Kapoor’s Footsteps, Sunday 18 October 

At Serlachius Family Day, we explore together the vivid colours, forms and surfaces of Anish Kapoor’s works. 

Painting workshop, 12 noon–5 pm 
In this guided painting workshop, you can experiment with colour and create your own work inspired by the intense colours in Kapoor’s exhibition. 

Guided tours of the Anish Kapoor exhibition at 1 pm and 3 pm, 45 minutes each 
During the tour, we: 

• explain the exhibition’s themes clearly and accessibly 

• take part in short interactive activities in the exhibition 

• pause to look at the works in new ways 

The Family Day workshop and guided tours are suitable for all ages. The programme is carried out in Finnish. Admission is free for visitors under 18; adult museum admission is €16/€10.50. Free with the Finnish Museum Card. 

Art Sauna and a Meal, Saturday 10 October 

Combine the flavours of the season with the Art Sauna for a unique Saturday experience in the beautiful surroundings of Serlachius Manor. 

The package includes: 

• A three-course Art Menu at Restaurant Gösta – an art-inspired meal made with the finest seasonal ingredients 

• Two hours in the gentle heat of the Art Sauna – architecture, the tranquillity of nature, an outdoor hot tub and an opportunity to swim 

Tickets €65. Book the experience and treat yourself, or surprise someone close to you with time together.

Public Art Sauna Day on Tuesdays

Public Art Sauna Day at Serlachius takes place every Tuesday throughout the year from 1 pm to 7 pm – including during the half-term holiday. 

At Serlachius Art Sauna, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the circular sauna room and experience art in a new setting. Step into the warm outdoor hot tub and take a dip in Lake Melasjärvi from the jetty. 

Please book your sauna session in advance at our webshop. Bring a swimsuit, a seat cover and your own towel. Each sauna session lasts two hours. 

Enjoy the season’s delicious flavours at Restaurant Gösta 

Make time for culinary delights during your art excursion. Restaurant Gösta is known for its pure, distinctive flavours, created under restaurateur Henry Tikkanen’s direction using ingredients from local producers. Enjoy the three-course Art Menu, Gösta’s pike burger or a weekday lunch. Afterwards, continue exploring art and history, or perhaps enjoy the a public Art Sauna Day. 

Restaurant Gösta is open on all museum opening days from 11 am to 5 pm; the kitchen closes at 4.30 pm.

The World of Forest – an interactive space for all the family 

Peek inside a bird box, listen to the sounds of the forest, crawl into a lynx’s den and climb the wall. The World of Forest is an interactive experience for children and adults, inspired by the Serlachius story, art and the biodiversity of Finland’s forests. 

Serlachius Headquarters, open during museum opening hours, Tuesday–Sunday, 11 am–6 pm. Included in museum admission; free for visitors under 18. 

Art Town Film Festival, 15–18 October 2026 

During the autumn half-term holiday, Mänttä-Vilppula is filled with the art of cinema. Screenings take place at four venues: the legendary Kino Säde cinema, Bio Säde, Kolhon Kuvatorppa and Serlachius Headquarters. 

Train & Taxi takes you straight to Serlachius 

Travel to Serlachius conveniently by public transport. Book the Train & Taxi package for yourself or a group on a Tuesday or Saturday. The service operates throughout the winter season. 

The package, €37 on Tuesdays and €31 on Saturdays, includes shared taxi transfers between Vilppula railway station and Serlachius, museum admission and, on Tuesdays, admission to the Art Sauna. Please note that train tickets are not included.

There is plenty to see and do in Art Town. You can conveniently find accommodation in Mänttä-Vilppula on the Visit Art Town website. Book the place that suits you best.
