The Serlachius Collection

The Serlachius art collection will be presented extensively for the first time at the Kadriorg Art Museum in Tallinn. The exhibition features key works from the collection from the Golden Age of Finnish art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It also includes early modernism from the early 20th century, Old European masters, and contemporary art.

Symphony of Art and Nature – The Serlachius Collection presents the favourite artists of Gösta Serlachius, the founder of the art foundation, with a particular focus on the work of Akseli Gallen-Kallela. At the same time, the exhibition tells the story of the collection and its founder, tracing its origins in Mänttä.

Nature forms the exhibition’s overarching theme. Other themes include colour and the depiction of everyday life. The curators, Greta Koppel from the Kadriorg Art Museum and Tomi Moisio from Serlachius, have interwoven works from different periods, and the gallery-specific themes are intentionally flexible.

The exhibition comprises a total of 75 works from the Serlachius Collection. Some of the works on paper will be rotated and replaced by others during the course of the exhibition.
