Anna Pekkala: Sweet n’ Salty Lagoon

Anna Pekkala’s exhibition Sweet n’ Salty Lagoon examines the will to live, the appetite for change, the desire and its opposites. Old remedies, stories and reality are mixed together in this slightly surreal description of the situation, where life and death gush in the same water.

In the installation, every element of the ecosystem is combined with synthetic epoxy resin. Epoxy appears as a metaphor for humans: we can be shaped and changed to an infinite extent, at least until our death, i.e. our point of decay.

Anna-Maria Bogner: Jaettu horisontti

JShared Horizon presents Anna-Maria Bogner’s works that were created during her residency in Mänttä. Bogner’s work has been inspired by the landscape shaped by lakes and forests, and her work focuses on exploring diverse perspectives and possible spaces.

Natural environment: the contrast between dense forests and large, open areas, reflected in the black, glass-like surfaces of lakes, affects the perception of space and time. These subtle connections are at the heart of Bogner’s artistic research.

Makiko Nishikaze: Snow Dance Kuusamo

Snow Dance Kuusmo is a video work, without sound. In November 2023, she was working in residence at Kuusamo ARK. During her stay, she made videos of observing the movement of snowplows, on the street. For people in Kuusamo, snowplows are very normal part of their winter life, but for her, it was really fascinating to observe them.

For this video, she deliberately eliminated the sound, in order to focus on the movement of the machines.

Some movement of the machines reminded her of slow dancing, so she composed “imaginal” choreography for them.

She has dedicated the video for the drivers of snowplows in Kuusamo who make the life easier in wintertime.
