Free Admission Day 26 AprilWe will celebrate Gösta Serlachius’ 150th birthday with a public celebration open to everyone on 26 April at Serlachius Headquarters. Admission to both of our museum sites will be free throughout the day. In addition, cake and coffee will be served all day at Serlachius Headquarters. Welcome!

Guided Tour: Gösta Serlachius 150 Years

The guided tour explores the life and patronage of Counsellor of Commerce Gösta Serlachius. The tour starts in the museum lobby and continues through the museum rooms and the Patrons exhibition. It focuses on Gösta Serlachius’ life, his role as managing director of G. A. Serlachius Ltd, and his activities as an art collector. The tour also sheds light on his work as a developer and beautifier of the Mänttä industrial community. Duration approximately 45 minutes.

Gösta Serlachius as a Leader and as a Person

Historian Oula Silvennoinen, PhD, discusses the key stages of Gösta Serlachius’ career as an industrial leader and the rise of G. A. Serlachius Ltd into an internationally significant company by Finnish standards. Gösta Serlachius’ thinking and character are explored through aspects of his personal life.

Oula Silvennoinen is a Docent of European History at the University of Helsinki. His research focuses on modern Finnish history. His publications include the biography Paperisydän (Paper Heart, Siltala, 2012) and Savunharmaa eminenssi (The Grey Eminence of Smoke, Siltala, 2020).
