Documented buildings from Mänttä and Huhkojärvi

ExhibitionMeasured and drawn presents existing buildings in the form of new drawings by architects and architecture students.

Making measurement drawings has been part of the education of architects for more than a hundred years. The skilful drawings, made using traditional methods, record and bring to light the details and structures of the buildings.

The drawings in the exhibition were created as a result of the measurement camps held in the autumn of 2023. Architecture students from the University of Tampere measured ten housing-related sites from different eras in Mänttä. The Huhkojärvi estate, founded by Gösta Serlachius in the late 1920s, was documented by architects belonging to the international VERNADOC network. The curator of the exhibition is Milla Sinivuori-Hakanen.

VERNADOC network

VERNADOC is an international network of architects who record the popular building stock developed in local conditions by drawing. The network includes more than a thousand architects from dozens of countries. Several measurement camps are held annually around the world. The initiator of the VERNADOC camps and network is architect Markku Mattila.

An international group of twelve architects camped at the Huhkojärvi farm. Over the course of two weeks, the architects measured the buildings and drew the drawings. The farm, located in Koskenpää in Jämsä, is currently owned by the R. Erik and Bror Serlachius Foundation.
