History of Western landscape painting hands-on

Combine the history of Western landscape painting with making and experiencing it. Build your own landscape from different elements, following the stylistic trends of art history.

In the introduction to the exhibition, visitors are told about Western landscape painting, which emerged as an independent art form at the beginning of the modern era in the 15th century. The photographic material in the exhibition presents classic landscape paintings from different centuries.

Our culture affects what things are emphasized in the landscape. The way of experiencing the landscape has also changed a lot over time. The exhibition tells the story of why such different landscape photographs have been made at different times.

The exhibition Landscape is based on the interaction between the guide and the group and offers an interesting destination for both young and old museum visitors. The exhibition is also open to the public without a guided tour.

The content of the exhibition has been designed by Pauli Sivonen, Director at the Serlachius Museums. The visual identity was created by set designer Tarja Väätänen and the pedagogical part by museum educator Päivi Nieppola.
