Portraiture with macabre humour

Do you sometimes dare to appear in an embarrassing or unfavourable light? An example of this is Stiina Saaristo, who draws humorous and grotesque self-portraits. The works, which depict power relations and femininity in a peculiar and exaggerated way, are characterised by large size and skilful details. With the help of the works, everyone can identify with situations where, for example, forbidden and difficult emotions, such as envy, greed or anger, come to the surface.

Recently, Saaristo has also created her exhilarating depictions of people in the form of ceramic sculptures. The retrospective exhibition showcasing Saaristo’s work features drawings, oil paintings, prints, and sculptures from 1995–2025.

The entrance ticket €10.50 per person includes the programme and afternoon coffee. The programme is presented by the museum staff in Finnish language.
