A Collection Illustrated by Anssi Kasitonni from Pispala Clothing

The art-fashion brand Pispala Clothing and Serlachius have launched a collaborative collection illustrated by Anssi Kasitonni. The collection has been created in connection with Kasitonni’s exhibition, which opened on 21 March.

The collection consists of nine products that combine Kasitonni’s distinctive visual world, humour, and sense of speed and movement.

“This collection perfectly reflects both Anssi’s and our way of doing things – slightly offbeat, but carefully crafted, with plenty of playful moments. It’s wonderful to bring a strong voice of contemporary Finnish art into the world of art fashion,” says Onni Ikonen, CEO of Pispala Clothing.

The inspiration behind the collection is a recognisable thought: why can’t my boyfriend be like Narvinen – rich, cool, and a skateboarder?

“The character of Narvinen is like a blank canvas onto which you can project any feeling of your own. Narvinen itself does not express any particular emotion or state of being. It’s a mix of the thousand-euro banknote and a famous comic-strip cat,” Anssi Kasitonni explains.

At Serlachius, the collaboration continues a long tradition in which art, design, and high-quality products go hand in hand.

“Good, contemporary design and high-quality art products in the museum shop are an essential part of the Serlachius museum experience. We continue to uphold a tradition that values aesthetics and quality. Already Gösta Serlachius emphasised this – he collaborated extensively with artists,” says Nea Kontoniemi, Head of Marketing at Serlachius.

Anssi Kasitonni is one of the most distinctive figures in contemporary Finnish art. He has been awarded both the Ars Fennica Prize and the international Below Zero Art Prize. A documentary film about him, The World of Anssi Kasitonni, will premiere in May.
