Artist Paola Suhonen makes a powerful return to feature films with her new work, From the Midnight Sun to Eternity. It is a story of self-determination, of losing it, of love larger than life, and of betrayal.

Two lost souls meet by chance on a sun-drenched road – drawn together by a shared journey, the inevitability of time passing, the presence of secrets, and the longing for love. As mirrors of each other, they travel across Finland bathed in the glow of the midnight sun, discovering something greater than the moment itself: another like them, their truest selves, and their dreams.

The film was shot on 16mm film using an exceptional chronological technique, in Suhonen’s signature True Fiction style, following the tender unfolding of the protagonists’ relationship in real time. Carefully cast characters from across Finland, with their raw intensity, along with unique and authentic locations, enrich this wistful, nostalgic, warm-hearted, painfully beautiful, and multi-layered journey.

Free performance touring Finland

The premiere of From the Midnight Sun to Eternity took place at Bio Rex in Lasipalatsi in Helsinki on 16 May 2025. The film will be screened in sixty locations in Finland. The screenings on the tour are free of charge. The idea is to bring people to encounter culture face-to-face.

The tour venues will feature film director, artist Paola Suhonen (Master of Arts / Aalto University, Master of Fine Arts / American Film Institute) and producer, musician and composer of film music, Olli Happonen.

Each screening venue will also feature the lovely Ivana Helsinki, a curated dress shop and a design shop selling other souvenir products from the film that will tour with the tour.
