Works from the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation’s collection

Virtual exhibitionOneself as Another presents the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation’s collection: old art as well as contemporary art. The exhibitions has been curated by Aura Seikkula.

Oneself as Another creates a space for the longing of the other, for their memory. The coronavirus pandemic meant that encounters with others were rare. Sociality and opportunities to socialise changed. Separation became seclusion, unpredictability was out of reach. The exhibition also ponders what we long for, what we return to, who is with us.

According to Aura Seikkula, the design and spatiality of the wooden extension of Serlachius Manor were taken into account in the design and construction of the space.

“What was rewarding about building these virtual spaces and curating the exhibition was the opportunity to avoid all physical laws. For example, we have changed the proportions and size of the works in dialogue with the space. The sizes of some of the works do not correspond to reality, and they thus take on a completely new essence,” she says.

The virtual exhibition space for Serlachius was created by the technology house Arilyn as part of the Virtual Art Gallery

The exhibition can be viewed and experienced on a computer, mobile phone and with VR headset browsers. If you are exploring the exhibition on a mobile device, keep your phone up as if you were looking at a real exhibition through it.
