There aren’t many grand compositions in the history of Western music that are more touching than Schubert’s Winterreise. And there aren’t many people who have dedicated themselves into exploring its depths more profoundly than Ian Bostridge. This is the very work that raised Bostridge to worldwide fame in 1993, after which he has performed it for hundreds of times. Bostridge’s book, Schubert’s Winter Journey: Anatomy of an Obsession (2015), has been a phenomenal success. In recent years, Bostridge has performed most of all with the pianist Saskia Giorgini, who shall also be his artistic partner at the Mänttä Music Festival 2022.
