A performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Sonata is an exceptional event that should not be missed. This composition is one of the greatest achievements of the Western art music tradition, as well as a true Himalayan challenge  for the pianist who chooses to perform it.

Juhani Lagerspetz started his concert pianist career as a teenager and included the Hammerklavier Sonata  in his repertoire from a young age. Lagerspetz has since gained the reputation as a heroic interpreter of this piece, both in Finland and abroad. After Lagerspetz’s London debut at the Wigmore Hall, journalist David Murray of the Financial Times described his playing as tirelessly energetic, imaginative, and striking. Murray praised Lagerspetz for “not showing off with his exceptional talents,” as he was “too Finnish” for such a maneuver.
