Eija-Liisa Ahtila

– In the Woods There is a Bird

Pauli Sivonen, director of the Serlachius Museums presents the production of Finland's internationally most acclaimed and successful contemporary. artist in Finland today. In his book Sivonen explores the relationship between a human and nature throught Ahtila's video works from mid-1990s to this day. The nature descibed in Ahtila's works is full of symbolicism. In spite of this, very few efforts have earlier been made to study this side of her production. Eija-Liisa Ahtila specializes in installations moving on the edge of film and video art. She has exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world and has works in numerous prestigious collections.
