11 am. The White House of Mänttä with Art and Stories from the Industrial Past: Serlachius Museum Gustaf, the former head office of the paper company, is also known as “the white house” of Mänttä. It was once the place where all the significant decisions of the Finnish paper industry were made. The peculiar habits and the history of the 1950’s Finland come alive through our humoristic drama guidance, where the paper company’s strict secretary testes your ability to work for the company. In the end of the tour you will learn how to make paper. Laughter guaranteed!
You may also take some time of your own at the museum’s exhibitions and the museum shop. Especially the exciting exhibition Paper Devil fascinates with the 150 years old story. The building in itself deserves a second look as well!
1 pm. Lunch at Gustaf: Light and delicious lunch is served you at the historical café furnished with Pauli Blomstedt’s famous design.
2 pm. Finnish Small-Town Life: This guided walking tour takes you in the core of Finnish living in a small town. You won’t only hear about the everyday life of the locals in the past and today but experience it by yourself! How do locals do their shopping? Finns certainly know how to party, but where do they get all the booze? What is the most common carpet used in the Finnish homes through the years? Let’s find out this and other funny details of the Finnish culture! The tour will take you in the most common and interesting places of the locality. Length 2 hours.
After the dive into the Finnish lifestyle, you have become Finnish enough to know what the Finns mean, when they say, “my coffee tooth is aching!”. Well, you need a cup of coffee with a Finnish pulla (bun) of course!
5 pm. It is time to leave the Art Town Mänttä with a bagful of memories to take with you! Or perhaps still another day...?
